Video of the Day: Novel ft. Talib Kweli and Spree Wilson "I AM"

I <3 motivational hip hop. Come to find out that since Pac passed, 80% of all motivational hip hop has either been a Talib Kweli track or featured Talib Kweli, just like this cut right here from Novel.

This is dope music.

Air Max Griffey 1

When it's all said and done, when the legends are all enshrined in the hall of fame and the shoe game is completely burned out, with only retros releasing, when the bootleggers are dead and gone and the limited editions are disappearing, I think these will be my all-time favorites.

They bring back memories of my glory days in the 206, of Griffey snatching homeruns out of the Kingdome air and of my middle school buddies and our youthful shoe pursuits that started at Chubby & Tubby.

And the good news for me is that they're re-releasing in April.

Engaged

I'm putting the over/under on this marriage at eight months. Apparently Martin was inspired by Barack and Michelle Obama's strong marriage so he decided to propose to Trina. Right. Take a look at the most successful and powerful couple in the world, then propose to a washed up female rapper who used to get her joints ran by Lil Wayne and cite the powerful couple as your motivation. I can't wait until they divorce and he blames it on John McCain or G-Dubb.

Good luck.

Managing your bankroll

I've had this discussion a few times in the past week so I thought this would be a good link to post for all the poker players of the world.

Cliffnotes: Have 10-20 buy-ins in your bankroll for your level, treat your BR conservatively, play your level for six months to a year. Take shots. But don't put an emphasis on taking shots.

Here we go

ESPN has already given us a healthy overdose of Terrell Owens, but now VH1 will finish us off, stuffing T.O. down our addicted throats with his own reality show.

And the kicker?

They've already started filming.

From Yahoo:

The plot of Terrell's show offers echoes of VH1's 2007 series, " Scott Baio Is 45 & Single," which found the former "Joanie Loves Chachi" star re-examining his personal life and commitment issues.

While Scott had pals Johnny V and former "Wonder Years" star Jason Hervey guiding his journey on " Scott Baio Is 45 & Single," Owens has friends Monique Jackson and Kita Williams helping his path to self-discovery.

VH1 confirmed that the two women will work as "matchmakers and therapists" for the pigskin star.

Stand-Up Month: Stephen Lynch (and friends)

Normally, I'm not a huge fan of the guitar-as-prop stand-up comedy, when entertainers use humorous songs to cover their lack of creative jokes. But this little ditty by Stephen Lynch and two of his pals is an exception to that rule. Hilarious performance here (unless you're a Dungeons & Dragons fan).

Video of the Day: Lady Gaga "Poker Face"

This one is for all my poker heads.. well.. it's not really about poker but for the simple fact that she called the song "Poker Face" and is singing about some guy reading her, I'm posting it. Plus she seems to hit a set of aces in one of the illest home games I've ever seen on video.

Not to mention if you're into this type of music, it's a good song and the video is pretty dope too, although it would have been a classic if she had Phil Ivey or Jesus Ferguson taking her out on a date or something.

If you get an ad before the video, just ignore it until the vid plays.

Stand-up Month: George Carlin

Here's a classic clip from George Carlin's (R.I.P.) 1996 HBO special, "Back in Town." George was quite possibly the best comedian of all time, and a large part of that is the brutal truth that he brings to every joke. Good stuff here.

Tyler Hansbrough a.k.a. B. Rabbit?

Shaquille O'Neal, Allen Iverson, Ron Artest...these days, it's somewhat commonplace for basketball stars to try their hand at hip-hop stardom. The worry of team owners, coaches, teammates, and fans, however, is often that a successful music career will distract the wannabe entertainer from his duties and responsibilities on the court.

Somehow, I don't think Tyler Hansbrough elicits much of that fear from those who have an invested interest in the North Carolina Tarheels.

From Rick Reilly at ESPN The Magazine (.com):
At the end of my interview with North Carolina's Tyler Hansbrough in Chapel Hill recently, I threw out: "Is it true you freestyle?" And he said, "Yeah, you wanna hear one?" And then he delivered this, without a milliliter of gangster:

Give the ball to
The tower of power
Pass it back out
Watch my main man Bobby
Drain threes like
He's in the shower

(Unsolicited rapper name suggestion: T-Painful.)

Daily Dunk: Jarrett Johnson

This is just ridiculous.

Enough about the kid flying over someone from outside the key and smashing all over his forehead, but watch it a second time and notice how he starts timing the dunk from damn near half court, obviously planning to smash the whole way.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is how you set a crowd of 35 in a community college gym on fire.

Yuck.

The George Jetson Days Ain't Far Away

The world is one step closer to the days of flying cars, thanks to this new product from Terrafugia, a Boston-area company. The Transition will retail at $194,000, so it is probably just outside the price range of the average person. Personally, I'm anxious to see BMW's design team get to work on a flying car of their own. By the time they invent one, I may actually be able to afford it.

Most Desirable Woman of 2009

The results are in, and the people have spoken. Or maybe it was just TJ repeatedly submitting his vote. Either way, Ms. Eva Mendes has been named AskMen.com's Most Desirable Woman of 2009, beating out Megan Fox (#2) and Marisa Miller (#3). Though physical beauty is one criterion, the annual poll is also based on various intangible characteristics that men look for in a potential mate, such as personality, sense of humor, lack of a gag reflex, etc.

[What's that? It's not one of the criteria? Says who?]

Hopefully Eva heeds the lesson of last year's No. 1, Katherine Heigl, who this year fell all the way down to 81st spot (out of 99). Also notable is the return to the list of Britney Spears (#90), and Halle Berry's ranking at No. 13, an impressive feat for any 42 year old woman (though I think most people will agree with me that Halle is far from being just "any woman"). The full list can be found here.

M.C. Joaquin?

Watch out Jay, there’s a new star in hip-hop. While it’s somewhat common these days to hear of popular rappers who quit or postpone their music careers to pursue dreams of acting, Joaquin Phoenix has taken the opposite track. Phoenix, best known for playing Johnny Cash in “Walk the Line,” recently retired from movies and is now focusing his time and energy on hip-hop.

Yes, hip-hop. No, not as an exec/label owner; no, not even as a producer. Phoenix is following his dream of clutching the mic and rocking crowds.

Personally, I support him; but, that's not to say that I don't find the whole thing rather amusing. A 34 year old white Hollywood actor, who has never been known for his charisma, decides to “spit hot fiyah”? It almost sounds like a publicity stunt for a new movie.
Fluttering around the club's catwalk, Phoenix, 34, rapped to the sounds of a drum beat and encouraged the crowd to dance. Though dancing was at a minimum, the crowd watched intently as a scraggly Phoenix – who donned a scraggly beard, long, unkempt hair and a ripped gray hat – hopped up and down and pumped his fist in the air during certain lyrics.

Our beloved electronics retailer, Circuit City, has just announced that it will be closing all (567) retail stores across the country. That's 30,000 employees and a lot of sales going down in the coming months.

Think your life sucks? Try comparing it to the entries on this site, where people can post daily anecdotes from their own lives. There are some fantastic reads here, and it's hard to feel too badly for yourself afterward—unless, that is, you are the guy who posted the excerpt below:
Today, I organized a party, invited a girl I've been secretly in love with for years, as well as a friend of mine who brought along an unknown mate of his. The party was fine, although the unknown mate threw up all over the floor. Now, the girl is dating that unknown mate and is in love with him. FML

Here's a homeless dude who is most likely on crack, just spittin his flows in the Jack in the Box parking lot of Houston. Not bad either.

This actually reminds me of a homeless dude that lives in South Central L.A. near USC. He was happy to rap for some change. One night a few friends and I had just finished blazing and were walking to a party when we ran into the homeless rapper. Not only did he just rap but he rhymed every sentence when he talked, so we talked to him all night and ended up just chilling in front of Del Taco for three hours. Good times.

The Cadillac World Thorium Fuel (Cadillac WTF)

This shit is seriously called the WTF. Nice.

Here is another concept car design by the most succesfull car manufacturer, the Cadillac World Thorium Fuel concept. Otherwise known as the Cadillac WTF. Design by Loren Kulesus, everything about the WTF has been created to last 100 years without maintenance. That's the reason for the element number ninety, thorium: to act as a nuclear fuel powering batteries that would power the car.

Elsewhere, every major system is redundant in case of a failure. The wheels don't have individual tires. In fact, what's located at each corner is one combined unit made up of six individual wheels. So if you count ,it will gives a total of 24 wheels, and each wheel has its own induction motor.

"The vehicle would require the tires to be adjusted every five years, but no material would need to be added or subtracted."

Damn I <3 The Bay. These are old but I came across them on the tube.

Turfin: Controlled movements like popping (struttin) but with more fluid movements and not as precise as poppin. Turfin started in Oakland, Ca. Oakland has a long history of poppin (such as the Oakland Street Poppers, etc.). When you see "Turfin" one can't help but see the popping influences (mixed with a little bayness like poppin collars and the general swagger baydestrians tend to have) and the general bay surroundings. Since the west coast basically perfected popping, it was only natural for similar derivatives to come out. It is a natural evolution from it's b-boying roots to it's mainstream popularity today. Elementary to high school students to twenty-somethings are turfin and it has since become the dance of the bay area.

Were your high school assemblies like this? Neither were ours. Although we did have 112 sing at one rally.
