The Bear calls The Best on the phone

On Barry Greenstein's latest audio blog, he calls his good friend Phil Ivey on the phone to talk about Ivey's play on Full Tilt. Ivey offers some tips on how he's playing and why and BG basically laughs at him and breaths heavily into the mic. Some of the highlights are Ivey talking about his caddy smoking too much weed, Ivey getting excited about Gus Hansen coming to the table and Greenstein admiring Ivey's uncanny ability to never lose a pot.

If you've ever wondered what a phone conversation sounds like between two poker greats, here's your chance.

Girls in bikinis > Hockey

This is what hockey marketing has turned to. The sport is played by men in padding, masks and full body clothing indoors on ice.

So how do they market the Dallas Stars? With a boat full of nearly naked women outdoor on a sunny day.

Makes perfect sense. And yes, this is straight from the team's official site.

Enjoy the frolicking "Dallas Stars' Ice Girls."

Daily Dunk: Dahntay Jones

This is the first time I've seen a Dahntay Jones highlight since his glory days at Dukey University. I have to say this is a nice flush.

Christmas is over, time for the oh nine.

Yeah I know, I've been a shitty blogger the past week. Or two weeks. I apologize. Most of us had cold, snowy Christmas days but some of us didn't.

I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday and now it's time to get back on the grind and brace ourselves for the next monumental year.

Peace.

UNDFTD Gym Bag

This bag was already fresh based on the company alone, but features water bottle pockets, multiple interior pockets and a pocket for shoes and sweaty clothes. I need this.

Available at UNDFTD for $172.

Ten thousand dollar snow ball

I've never wondered what a $10k snowball looked like, but now I know. The NFL fined New York Jets player Shaun Ellis ten dimes for this gigantic snow ball that he dumped on a Seahawk fan.

Holiday travel all bad

If you haven't heard, most of the airlines and airports across the country are all backed up with delays and cancellations. I'm flying out of LAX tonight and my flight is already delayed an hour. I'm guessing it's going to be cancelled but hoping for the best. So if you're traveling for the holidays, good luck.

If you need to look up any information regarding flight status, airport statuses and/or delays, check out flightstats.com

Chamillionaire - Mixtape Messiah 6 sampler

I can only respect Cham's hustle, he cracked the top ten richest rappers (Forbes) this year once again, up there with folks like 50, Jay, Outkast, Common, etc. in terms of making money and he does it indy down there in the dirty.

Chino Rheem wins the WPT Five Diamond Classic at the Bellagio

For those that followed the World Series Main Event on ESPN this year, final table pro Chino Rheem just captured his first major event at the Bellagio, taking home $1,538,730 against a very tough final six players that consisted of Amnon Filippi, Hoyt Corkins, Steve Sung, Justin Young and Evan McNiff.

Thundercats Coming

Okay I admit it, this is a fan-made trailer of the Thundercats movie that is supposedly in the works. You probably sniffed out some Vin Diesel and Mad Max scenes. Some guy actually put this whole trailer together using Adobe Photoshop. Pretty sick.

Seattle for the Day

This was sent to me by faded T. If you haven't heard or didn't watch the Jets/Seahawks game, it's blizzarding in Seattle. Non-stop. Which is leaving a lot of our holiday travel plans in question. Most of the flights from LAX to Seattle have been cancelled. Good luck trying to find a way to Seattle and if you're in Seattle, enjoy the snow.

Daily Dunk: Gerald Henderson

I wish this was in better quality because Henderson just literally flew in for this dunk. It reminded me of when UNC used to run the same type of inbounds play for Vince Carter.

Not bad, not bad at all. Coming sometime in 2009.

Video of the Day: Angela Lola Luv "Boss B*tch"

This is great.

Well the song is questionable but is pure marketing genius along the lines of the I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-T song that dropped last year. I can see every hood chick in America playing this song on repeat for the next year.

Not to mention I could watch Angela do her thing for an entire album...

"Oh you hood rich? Well I'm hood richer..." raw lyricism at it's finest.

JC Alvarado, latest Full Tilt signing

Successful poker player JC Alvarado is the latest to join the team of Full Tilt Pros. The move took place earlier this week although no details of the agreement were made public.

JC began his poker career online and has made the smooth transition to the live tournament circuit where he already has a couple of WPT final tables under his belt including a 2nd place finish in the 2007 World Poker Challenge for a cool $366,978 payday.

He's an active member on the Full Contact Poker forums as well as being part of Daniel Negreanu's poker training website Poker VT.

He's actually a good friend of mine and he's handed me a few ass whoopings on FIFA 09 over XBOX Live. A Crooked Straight exclusive interview with JC is in the works but for now I'll leave you guys with an episode of CardPlayer's High Stakes Living in which Alvarado was featured.

Sin City Snowfall

Because this blog is concerned with all Vegas happenings (kinda) we thought you'd like to know Sin City was hit with what's believed to be the biggest snow fall in 30 years.

Just got done texting with my boy King who's partying it up over there, and after confirming his STD count remains at 0 (for now...) he also confirmed that the Strip is indeed covered in a nice Christmasy snow white.

Out sick

I'm loving the Seattle weather down here in L.A., but it looks like my immune system went soft over the past 10 years. Sorry about the slow down on the website, I'll come back stronger than ever once I get my ass out of bed. Maybe we'll see some posts from some other CS reps (good lookin' out Vic).

Peace

(Maybe I jinxed myself with the sunny weather pic last week..)

Daily Dunk: Josh Smith

I'm not sure how this dunk, which came during the pinnacle of the game in the heat of battle to tie the score, didn't catapult the Celtics to a victory (at home) against the Celtics.

Kendrick Perkins fouled him two or three times on this play and then got... Josh Smith'd.

Stocking Stuffers: Kardashian Calendar

Wouldn't mind finding this inside my stocking Christmas morning.

Kardashian's 2009 calendar has been in the works for a while and is apparently Kim's holiday gift for her boo Reggie Bush. The pictures actually got leaked back in May of this year after Kim's mom made them public much to Reggie's dislike.

Yea it's not like your girl hasn't already been exposed my man. She's only got what, a sex tape and a Playboy spread to satisfy my err, curiosity about your girl's physique...

Vegas stepping up the comp game

Due to the fact that business has been decreasing every month this year, some Vegas hotels are stepping up their comp game in order to attract more tourists and gamblers.

From the Las Vegas Sun:

Some hotels are offering double-digit discounts on rates as well as package deals that nearly equal the cost of a room. One example: On selected days in January, rooms at MGM Grand will go for $59 and include a $25 “activity credit,” $10 in free slot play and nightclub passes.

Last week, the Terrible’s-owned casinos in Primm went a step further by advertising free rooms as well as passes to rides and shows for locals.
However, if you've been ballin' with the likes of Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu and such, all your shit is comp'd anyways so this really doesn't matter to you.

via Las Vegas Sun

Daily Dunk: Anthony Randolph

Last week I guess Anthony Randolph, who averages 5.9 points per game, made it a point to shit on Yao Ming not only once but twice. The second one is especially vicious and youthful. Yao MING!

What happened in Vegas no longer happens in Vegas

Looks like Vegas has been hurting this year and could possibly attempt to lower the legal gambling age to 18. Interesting. We're not doing well so let's get teenagers hooked on gambling and prostitutes.

Great idea, I knew the recession wasn't that tough to figure out. Bail out, shmail out. Just lower the legal gambling age and we're good.

From MSNBC:

The Nevada Gaming Control Board reported last week that revenue at the state’s casinos fell by 22 percent in October, compared with the same month last year. It was the 10th straight monthly decline — and the biggest ever. The story was even worse on the Las Vegas Strip, where the October take was down by 26 percent. The steep downturn has sparked a movement to lower the legal gambling age to 18.
Here's a link to the full story on msnbc.

I mean, come on, Warriors. He's already arguably the best player in the game. Did you really need to offer him a frigging runway to the hoop? Good God. There should have been flashing lights along the edge of the paint and an air traffic controller sitting on the backboard.

Weather looking good, I heard there's snow storms out east. Snapped this when I went to grab lunch. Have a good weekend..
