You gotta be an old-school cat to remember this one. Dirk "The Blur" Minniefield was Mr. Basketball and leader of the prep state champions in the Bluegrass State in 1979, as well as a McDonald's and Parade All-American. He stayed home and became a sick 6'3 guard for Kentucky from 1980-83, dropping dimes to Sam Bowie and Mel Turpin, and was drafted by the Mavericks, although he never played for them. He ended up bouncing around four teams in three years in the NBA.
(There may be a reason for that: He admits to smoking marijuana like a chimney from high school until the early 90s, including before the 1983 Midwest Regional final, where he came weak in the lane late in the game with UK holding a narrow lead and got swatted. Louisville went on to win in overtime. The cocaine he carried around daily his senior year probably didn't help, either. Also, he was a pimp; he had three kids before he graduated high school. But I digress.)
He still holds the Wildcats' career assists record - and is still in the top 10 for career steals - but more importantly laid down one of the most jaw-dropping dunks in the history of college basketball on some poor schmuck from Mississippi State.
