Spreading the Good Word

I've always wanted to visit Japan. It's such a beautiful and strange land. I mean, really, really strange. Like, fucking weird.

Not the least of which is because, in Japan, "fuck" is weird. Here in the US, we use it as such a daily crutch of expression, that we forget just how different it may sound to other cultures for whom English isn't their first language. Thankfully, there's a book that can help them with this issue.

You might be aware that there is currently a book on sale that will teach Japanese folks how to use the word f*ck properly. It is comprehensive and hilarious and comes complete with audio CD with lessons on using others words like sh*t, damn, and hell. The last two probably used as filler because they’re not f*cking swear words anymore.

Anyway, the wonderful gent who runs Abroad In Japan bought a few copies of the book and put it to the test with some natives in Japan and the above video is the result. It seems like a lot of fun.

The Japanese Love Industry

If, after watching this video, your first instinct is going to be to ask me why I haven't moved to Japan, let me just answer the question ahead of time: I don't know. Tokyo looks like it would be my playground. Sushi! Beautiful, single Japanese women in their 20s and 30s who are so focused on making their own money that none of them have any designs on being in a relationship! Cuddle cafes! (...forget I said that. No! Shut up! Didn't happen!)

Monday Kickstart: Kentucky Fried Christmas

During a casual conversation with my manager the other day, I asked whether or not Christmas was celebrated in Asian nations, such as Japan. Well, here's my answer.



That...is different. But, I've got to say, it looks delicious. My mom's one hell of a chef, and she's cooked every Christmas Eve and Christmas dinner I've ever eaten. But I'm kind of thinking KFC on December 26th should be a new tradition. (There's no way in hell I'm spending $70 on it, though.)

It's been a while since the last time we had a foreign TV game show clip (or, as Stewie Griffin would say, "a sexy party"). Again we go to the Land of the Rising Sun for a contest that involves cute girls in swimsuits, a balance beam, a balloon full of celebration, and thousands of confused (but interested) male American viewers.
