Monday Kickstart: Never Say Never

This is quite likely the greatest buzzer-beater shot you may ever see. It's certainly hard to imagine one better.

Well done, Mr. Edney. Well done.

And, speaking of "hard to imagine one better", say hello to Miss Jasmine Symone:

Let's go.

Cartoon Violence

Blah, blah, blah, bad conduct to endorse and/or condone, blah...

Now that that's out of the way...this is great. If I was King of the World, the law would say fighting in public is okay, so long as both parties are wearing goofy costumes during the encounter.

From Yardbarker:
The mascots for two Louisville high school basketball teams (Manuel High & Male High) brawled on the court during a meeting between the two schools last Friday. The two were supposed to engage in a friendly “duel” at midcourt during a break in the action, but it turned serious when one of the mascots tried to drop kick the other.

The packed gym roared as the two duked it out on the parquet before the game eventually resumed, but students of each respective school reportedly were in involved in fights in the parking lot after the game.

Fights in school and in parking lots, isn’t that the true spirit of high school?
I couldn't agree more. Now, can we move on to discussing why there's a high school in Kentucky called Male High?

Tipping Point

If you were ever a high school athlete, then more than likely you indulged in a similar daydream from time to time: With the game clock ticking towards zero in a state championship game and your team's success in your hands, you grasp the opportunity to step up and be the unquestionable hero in a moment when the stakes are at their absolute highest. It's an incredibly unrealistic scenario. Those moments aren't just once-in-a-lifetime, they're once-in-a-thousand-people's-lifetimes. It's Hollywood magic, art that real life admires from behind a velvet rope but never dares to imitate.

Well, almost never. For Josh Adams of Chaparral High School in Colorado, daydreams can't compare to reality.

Prank Fail

Students at a Kansas high school blindfolded their basketball coach, stood him at half court, and told him that if he hit a shot from there, he'd win tickets to the NCAA Men's Final Four.

The catch? The students never had the tickets. Because, I mean, who could possibly hit a half-court shot while blindfolded?

D'oh.

Broken Backboard = Season Over

Normally, when you break a backboard with a dunk, you're looked at as a hero. But when you do it in pregame warm-ups and cost your team the game (and, quite possibly, the playoffs), chances aren't so good that your teammates will be congratulating you afterward.
On March 5 in Cut Bank, Mont., Isaiah Martin, a 5-foot-11 senior guard for Harlem's boys basketball team, dunked during warmups for a high school tournament game with Shelby.

There was a shower of glass as the backboard shattered.

Harlem had to forfeit the game.

According to the Montana High School Association, dunking is not allowed in pregame warmups in tournament play. If a backboard is damaged by a pregame dunk, the offending school must forfeit.

The Harlem head coach raises some good points in the article, however. The likelihood that a "smaller" kid like Martin was the sole cause of the glass breaking is probably slim. I really hope that Martin doesn't take too much heat for this from his teammates and classmates. The full story can be read at Rivals.com.
