Throwback Thursday: "Can't Deny It" -- Fabolous ft. Nate Dogg

F-a-b-o's debut single met the minimum requirements: Thumping beat, braggadocia, superstar guest appearance (R.I.P. Nate Dogg), and a video full of hot women and kitted rides. And, as far as the subject matter goes, the track falls perfectly into Fab's wheelhouse. But to me, it lacked something. I was a fan of Fab after hearing him on some of the Clue tapes and whatnot. Thankfully, he redeemed himself with "Breathe", which was more like what I expected to hear from him.

But, like I said, this track bangs, too.

Throwback Thursday: "Into You" Fabolous ft. Tamia

"I'll outshine you on tracks, like Tamia did Ashanti..."

I was a fan of this track when I first copped the Street Dreams CD. But then the single dropped, and two things happened: (1.) Tamia did the damn thang and successfully reclaimed the track from Ashanti; and (2.) I fell in love with Tamia all over again. This was definitely a beach track that summer (2003), which makes it fitting that Fab took the video in that direction as well.

Throwback Thursday: "Breathe" -- Fabolous

"Every chick I bone can't leave the dick alone,
So I know it's one of them everytime I flip my phone"

Seven years later, this track still blows the doors off whatever swag you think you have.

Throwback Thursday: "Never Leave" -- Lumidee ft. Busta Rhymes & Fabolous

To be honest, I was conflicted when choosing this track for Throwback Thursday. Con: The track was one of those "Summer of [enter year here]" anthems that quickly become about as irritating and worthwhile as a lecture on quantum physics by Snooki. Pro: If you've managed to avoid listening to it since the summer of 2003 (as I more-or-less have), it'll hit you like the fresh & catchy head-nodder that it was when brand new. Pro: The video features an array of (refreshingly realistic) Butter Rican beauties. Con: The lead artist ain't one of them.

But, ultimately, the energetic video and rhythm (don't even try to lie like I'm the only one who ever clapped along to this at a club in '03; I saw some of y'all drunk asses doing it too) and slick rhymes by Fab & Busta win out and make it worth a play or two. Then we can put it back in the closet next to "I'm Real" (really, Ja?).

You didn't know? If you've been asleep for the past two years, Joe Budden's girl has been all over the place ever since he started including her in JoebuddenTV and now she's on the cover of King Mag. Well, Fabo used to bang that out and now he's hearing the questions about it because she's blown up.

However, the drama is minimized in this interview.
