Oakland Police shooting (this is extremely sad)

Most of us are well aware of the fatal police shooting that took place in the Oakland BART subway system on New Year's Eve.

To sum up what happened: There were tons of people taking the BART home on New Year's Eve after bringing in the New Year. The Oakland Police Department received a call alleging a disturbance/altercation on one of the trains and the officers removed several young men from the train and had them laying face down on the ground.

At this point there are more than several witnesses in the station as well as on the full train, some of whom were recording the incident. The officers clearly have control of the situation and even before the shooting you can hear people complaining of excessive force being used. Then all of a sudden one of the officers shoots Oscar Grant, a 22-year-old father, in the back and kills him.

That officers name is Johannes Mehserle and he has since resigned. The investigation is ongoing.

The footage below is extremely disheartening as you can hear the police gunshot and at that point Grant's body goes motionless.

From a personal standpoint, I know that the police forces are here to protect us but I can't understand how things like this keep happening. It truly breaks my heart and I know that there are other incidents occurring all over the country that aren't video taped and go unpublicized.

Rest in Peace.
