Tuesday Kickstart: A Mind is a Terrible Thing to Waste

If I had one wish, it'd be to be 18 and starting college again. My fallback wish? Going to Epps College.

Why are we starting on Tuesday this week? Well, because TJ gave me a tour of his hometown (Chicago) this past weekend, and Monday morning I couldn't move—aside from using my thumb to type an email to my manager, to tell her I wasn't coming in. There's more to this tale, of course, and some day On the Rocks will be blessed with it. But for now I'll just say that one weekend ain't enough. I need a Chitown redo. Derek Low, a freshman at UC Berkeley, has tricked out his room in an epic fashion. His abode, which he nicknamed BRAD (short for Berkeley Ridiculously Automated Dorm) has automatic curtains, light sensors and music befitted for every time of day or emotional experience possible. When his room is on "romantic mode," for example, music plays and the lights dim. On "party mode," loud music blares and there is a light show!
