Mi Scusi

I can't... The look on Anthony Tolliver's face is killing me. Michael Beasley is the American version of the "Mi Scusi" guy from Eurotrip.

"It is hard, goddamn work..."

This had to be some kind of setup, an elaborate hidden camera skit for a TV show. I just haven't figured out who or what yet.

That's enough to make Billy Hoyle proud.

Monday Kickstart: Never Say Never

This is quite likely the greatest buzzer-beater shot you may ever see. It's certainly hard to imagine one better.

Well done, Mr. Edney. Well done.

And, speaking of "hard to imagine one better", say hello to Miss Jasmine Symone:

Let's go.

Let the Healing Begin

I can sympathize with this guy. In my life, I've owned two jerseys: a Tim Brown Los Angeles Raiders jersey, and a Natrone Means San Diego Chargers jersey. The price for an authentic jersey is just too high, when there's always a decent chance that the player won't be with that team next year, next month, or even next week. This past Tuesday I was considering the purchase of a Penguins jersey, but...nah. I'll spend it on booze instead. At least I know when the booze is going to be gone.

Throwback Thursday: "White Men Can't Jump" -- Riff

You're damn right I did. I always thought this was a cool little one-off track (I don't think any of Riff's other songs ever came close to generating the small amount of airplay that this one did). And the video—featuring Wesley Snipes, Woody Harrelson's dancing, and Rosie Perez's 90's/mom jeans—is a necessary history lesson for today's fans of music, style, and unintentional comedy.

Head Games

Rajon Rondo, off his forehead to Rudy Gay at a charity game. Yup.

Drill Baby, Drill

Glen Rice, you will heretofore be known as "That Nucca".

From Deadspin:
The National Enquirer grabbed some details from the upcoming Joe McGinniss Sarah Palin book, and this chunk is too delightful not to share with you immediately. Apparently Palin had a fling with former Heat/Hornet/Laker Glen Rice while he was in college and while she was a sports reporter in Alaska, all the way back in 1987. Rice confirms it in the book.

This is just the type of thing I needed to brighten my hump day.

The Enquirer report goes on to mention that Palin had a "fetish for black men at the time". At the time? Come on now, Sarah. You know the deal: Once you go black, you never go back. (Call me.)

What Was He Thinking?

From the Los Angeles Times:
For reasons unknown to anyone who's remotely familiar with basketball, Bow Wow challenged Bryant at his basketball camp to a game of one-on-one, wagering the rights to his next single. Naturally, the Black Mamba didn't shy away from the challenge ... err, the chance to steal candy from a baby, and humiliated him in the process. But Bow Wow wouldn't let it go. He then challenged Bryant to a rematch worth $1,000 where he could only shoot jumpers. Bryant walked away $1,000 richer with an easy way to gradually build more strength in his knee. (Note: The video contains language that some viewers might find objectionable.)

Clearly, Bow Wow doesn't subscribe to the theories of Gambling 101. One of those includes not making bets you don't have any sense of a chance of actually winning.
This is just brutal to watch. Kobe toys with him the whole time, all in front of his campers and Bow Wow's entourage.

A couple of thoughts:
  1. Why the hell does Bow Wow have a guy carry around what looked to be about $10 Gs in cash in a duffle bag?
  2. Nice move by Kobe to divy up his winnings among the kids.

Courting Trouble

Someone in Munich has way too much time on his or her hands.

From Ball Don't Lie:
A regulation-sized basketball court was erected on the grove-like forecourt of the school building of the occupational school. The court consists of a soft orange-red tartan covering and two normed baskets and seems to be forced over the grid of the lamps that have been set up. The playable court has been "morphed" as in a 3D program on a computer and looks like the grounds of a rollercoaster, with heights and depths and calm and dynamic zones. The resulting paradox, which moves between a normative set of rules and pleasurable, anarchic change, requires creative engagement for its use.
My first instinct when reading this was to crack a few jokes about how the Germans designed this court just to—ironically—even the playing field when Americans come around for a game of fünf-auf-fünf. Then I remembered this year's NBA Finals, so...nah.

This court is ridiculous, though. Why would you do something like this for a sport that requires you to bounce the ball off the ground? It would be much more sensible to try it with football (American), football (rest of the world), baseball, etc.

And, in my opinion, the positioning of a lamp at the top of one of the keys is almost worse than the undulating surface. It's like having an automatic pick set up on every offensive possession at that end.

Crazy-ass Germans. What's that Dirk? Nothin...

Daily Dunk: Wizards Fan

This has to be staged. It's just too unbelievable. From Exhibits A, B, and C in "White Men v. Jumping" (the real sports trial of the past century), to the main event's reaction after the dunk. There's no way this was all spontaneous and unplanned by the Wizards.

And I don't care. Hilarious.
