Throwback Thursday: "Can't Deny It" -- Fabolous ft. Nate Dogg

F-a-b-o's debut single met the minimum requirements: Thumping beat, braggadocia, superstar guest appearance (R.I.P. Nate Dogg), and a video full of hot women and kitted rides. And, as far as the subject matter goes, the track falls perfectly into Fab's wheelhouse. But to me, it lacked something. I was a fan of Fab after hearing him on some of the Clue tapes and whatnot. Thankfully, he redeemed himself with "Breathe", which was more like what I expected to hear from him.

But, like I said, this track bangs, too.

Joell Ortiz Gives 'em a Little Michael McDonald

The younger generation of music fans may not know who Michael McDonald is, though you may recognize some of his songs--more accurately, you may recognize the beats from some of his songs, which have been sampled by various artists. One such song is "I Keep Forgettin'", which Warren G used for "Regulators" (R.I.P. Nate Dogg). Indeed, the hip-hop world is well aware of McDonald's legacy.

The Slaughterhouse crew is mean group of MCs but that doesn’t mean they don’t know how to have some fun. Last night at their show in Ft. Lauderdale, Joell Ortiz did a hilarious cover of singer Michael McDonald’s classic song ‘I Keep Forgetting‘ while Joe Budden busted some passionate dance moves.

This shit slayed me. Ortiz actually does a pretty damn good rendition, and Budden more than does his part to assist in the performance.

Both Mos and Pharaohe spit sick verses (unfortunately Mos' is shortened in the video), and as usual Nate brings a powerful hook. This is probably my favorite track that Nate ever appeared on. R.I.P.

Hip-hop lost a member of its family today. Nathaniel "Nate Dogg" Hale was an intrinsic part of the the West Coast's rise to power in the early 90s, as well as the seamless blending of rap music from all corners of the country in the years since. His signature voice belted out smooth hooks on hits by Snoop, Warren G., Dr. Dre, Jadakiss, Jay-Z, Eminem, Ludacris, and others.

Hale was 41 years old. R.I.P.

Say It Ain't So, Nate

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Prosecutors have filed felony charges against Nate Dogg, who authorities suspect threatened and stalked his wife.

The rapper, whose real name is Nathaniel Dwayne Hale, was charged Monday. He was arrested last month by the California Highway Patrol after his wife claimed he was threatening her and following her as she drove on a freeway south of Los Angeles.

Hale, 38, will be arraigned July 16 on felony counts of making criminal threats, stalking and a misdemeanor charge of driving while his license was suspended for a drunken driving violation. - END

The man who has made a legendary career out of singing hooks and verses on countless songs about pimping, macking, playerism and passing a groupie to the next homie is busted for STALKING?

I wonder if his lawyer's going to use the "bitches ain't shit but hos and tricks" defense.
