USC Returns 2005 Heisman Trophy

Since winning the Lombardi in February, Reggie Bush has gradually been losing other prestigious trophies; first Kim Kardashian, and now the Heisman he earned while at USC.

From Rivals.com:
The University of Southern California will return the Heisman Trophy won by former star tailback Reggie Bush in 2005, incoming university president C.L. Max Nikias announced Tuesday.

Nikias delivered the news in a memorandum, adding that he has instructed the athletic department to remove murals of Bush and former basketball star O.J. Mayo from university grounds. Improper benefits taken by Bush and Mayo during their time at USC prompted wide-ranging NCAA sanctions leveled against the school last month

The university will also be removing Mayo and Bush's jerseys, pictures, and various paraphenalia from various school facilities, including the L.A. Memorial Coliseum.

Manu the best?

I was listening the Dan Patrick show this morning and he was interviewing NBA rookie OJ Mayo of the Memphis Grizzlies. Patrick asked Mayo who the player was that made OJ realize he needed to work on his defense if he was going to be able to guard this guy and Mayo said it was Ginobili. He said that Manu is the toughest to guard because as a defender you know he's going left, but he still goes left on you. When Patrick asked why Mayo didn't say Kobe, Mayo said that with Kobe you know he's going to shoot a jumper, you just don't know when or how he's going to shoot it. He said Manu moves so much off the ball that he's a harder player to defend.

Just thought I'd share that, thought it was interesting. It is a b*tch guarding a shooting guard who doesn't stop moving off the ball.

Daily Dunk: OJ Mayo

The Grizzlies' rookie star spreads it on (sorry, couldn't resist) against the Nuggets Sunday night by essentially out-Birdmanning the Birdman.

NBA Draft T-Shirts by UNDRCRWN

UNDRCRWN has joined Adidas in a promotional package of the top five (projected) picks in today's draft. Each player was given a pack that included track jackets and t-shirts. My sources tell me that O.J. Mayo is a pen away from inking to Nike, who made a big push at him when he visited their campus in Beaver, OR, last week.

O.J., SC, X-Friends

This was just not a weekend to be a Trojan named O.J. with ex-friends looking to make a quick buck off of ratting your ass out.

First, Mike Gilbert, who used to be OJ Simpson's agent, ratted Simpson out like any great friend would do. Here's an excerpt from his book:

“O.J.,” I said, “what happened that night? What happened on June 12?” He took a breath, and leaned back. He gave a familiar sigh. He got a very pensive look on his face. He looked at me. “What do you think?” he said. “What do you think happened that night, Mike?” I gave very careful consideration to what I was about to say, and how I was going to say it. I finally answered: “O.J., I believe you were there. I have always believed you were there. In fact, the first thing I said when I heard the news was, ‘So he finally did it.’ ”

Then he said, “Mike, I did go there that night, but I didn’t take a knife. Nicole opened the door with a knife in her hand.”

I waited. A few seconds passed, and then he continued, in a very soft and low mumble, almost as if he were sleep-talking. “If she hadn’t opened that door with a knife in her hand, Mike, she’d still be alive.”

Not that this news really matters to anyone anymore, but it has to hurt when your ex-agent comes out with this shit while you're already awaiting trial for a life sentence.

Moving on to the other OJ, who reportedly took thousands of dollars, a flat-screen television for Mayo's dorm room, cell phone service, a hotel room, clothes, meals and airline tickets.

He denies it of course. So that's good. As long as USC had no knowledge of it and had no way of knowing (50/50 shot), we'll be good. The ex-friend who ratted Mayo out says that USC didn't know about it but that they did keep contact with the other guy who was paying Mayo off. We'll see.

Here's the story.

Mock Draft

Yesterday I'm playing poker and my boy walks by me and tells me that "O.J. is gonna suck" in the NBA. Well, according to nbadraft.net, NBA teams must be pretty high on him if he's going third.

I'm a bit suprised to see that. What about three Pac-10 players in the top five? Westbrook at nine? Interesting. Too bad the Sonics aren't staying in Seattle or I'd love Beasley with Durant and Green.
