Throwback Thursday: "Da Rockwilder" — Method Man & Redman

Full disclosure: I hate this song. Okay, "hate" is probably too strong of a word. But I've never been impressed by it. It's only value was that it got asses shaking at hall parties. Aside from that? Meh.

So why am I posting it? Well, mostly because I'm writing this at 12:30 Wednesday night, I haven't put up a Throwback track in three weeks, and I'm lazy.

But I've chosen this instead of an MC Hammer track because I know people—whose opinions on music I trust—who love this song. So turn up the volume. Hopefully you'll find what those people found in it.

Throwback Thursday: "All That I Got Is You" -- Ghostface Killah ft. Mary J. Blige

Mark this down as the saddest song that will ever appear in a "Throwback Thursday" post. These are easily the most concise Ghostface lyrics ever; ironically, they're also the most heartbreaking. It's almost as though he put aside his whole style for one verse, just to make sure every last emotion behind his words was felt by as many listeners as possible. And given that one moment to speak from the heart, Ghost just absolutely dominates your state of mind for 45 seconds, then lets Mary J.* tie a slightly-more-rosy bow around it all.

*Yes, I'm aware the video credits Tekitha with the vocals. But Mary J. sang the album version, and that's clearly what they use for the video. I'm not sure of the whole back story as to why they didn't give Mary her due, but I'm damn sure going to give it to her. She did her best to match Ghost's intensity (impossible to achieve, sure; but she came closer than anyone else could have); and, as wrenching as his lyrics are while bringing you to your knees, hers are nearly as inspiring as they breathe life in your lungs and lift your head toward the sky.

Dedicated to my beautiful mother on her birthday. Love you, lady.

Throwback Thursday: "Incarcerated Scarfaces" -- Raekwon

Back in '95, every kid living outside of NYC wished he grew up in NYC. Videos like this one were a big part of it. Seeing the raw, rough-around-the-edges swagger that videos like this depicted made you just a little jealous that you weren't a native of the streets of Shaolin.

"N***a I seen it,
like a 27 in. Zenith, believe it"

Throwback Thursday: "Whatcha Gonna Do?" -- Jayo Felony ft. Method Man & DMX

Slick 1998 track that hit right about the time X was blowing up. Interesting how his career and Jayo's went in decidedly different directions afterwards.

Throwback Thursday: "Funkorama" -- Redman

This video is packed with cameos, but the song is pure Funk Doctor. One of those tracks that takes me back to high school, on some ol' kicking-it-in-study-hall-trying-to-holla-at-Marissa ish...

Throwback Thursday: "Break Ups 2 Make Ups" -- Method Man ft. D'Angelo

Raise your hand if you have a crazy ex-girlfriend? Yup. Some of y'all have both hands raised. Let's let Meth and D speak on it for a few minutes...

Throwback Thursday: "Grand Finale" -- DMX, Nas, Method Man, & Ja Rule

"And god'll throw a beam of lightnin down 'cuz he feel us"

This is a sick posse cut from the Belly soundtrack (1998). Each emcee brings his trademark power to the track, and Irv Gotti mixes in some great clips from the movie itself.

Meth's Too Gangsta for 'Em

Sure, you might scare off a little reality/pop star like Tila Tequila by throwing cans and rocks at the stage like a collection of two year old jackasses. But you better bring some serious ruck if you want to get Method Man off the stage.

From CBS News:
According to TMZ, Wu-Tang Clan member Method Man also suffered an injury caused by the Gathering of Juggalos -- fans of the band -- when he was allegedly struck in the eye with a thrown beer can.

Method Man and pal Redman were performing Sunday night when all of a sudden what looked like a "full beer can" was thrown at Meth's face, resulting in a gash on the left side, says the celebrity website.

Redman then yelled expletives at the Juggalos, and told his buddy, "Your face is cut, go take care of that," reports TMZ.

However, reportedly Method Man did not scare as easily as the pint-sized Tila Tequila, and instead the bloodied rapper yelled out, "Start the music we're continuing the show, let's f*** these motherf***ers up."

A "hell yeah" to Meth on reaffirming his gangsta. But I hope these incidents lead to some serious charges being filed against these juggalo idiots.

Throwback Thursday: "Ice Cream" -- Raekwon ft. Ghostface Killah, Cappadonna, & Method Man

Hall of Fame-level, CLASSIC track right here. All three emcees kill the beat, a merciless RZA production, and Meth rocks the hook and ad-libs to perfection.
