Daily Dunk: Kobe Bryant

Today the U.S. team sealed a shot at the gold medal against Spain as they routed Argentina.

Here's one of the better dunks from this year's Olympics as D.Wade makes a nice save that ends up being a perfect alley-oop to Kobe.

Hopefully the "redeem team" doesn't pull a U.S. Women's softball and blow the final.

The Top of the Mountain

Here is a new song by Dave Stewart and various others, inspired by the movement that is Barack Obama. Incredible. Says Stewart:
Earlier this year when I was recording "American Prayer," a song I originally co-wrote with Bono, the phrase, "When you get to the top of the mountain, remember me" seemed to take on a whole new resonance, given the inspirational candidacy of Barack Obama.

The song always contained one of my favorite passages from Dr. King, which was hauntingly delivered the night before he was assassinated. King says: "I just want to do God's will. And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over. And I've seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the Promised Land!"

UNDRCRWN Obama shirts

Inspired by the 2000 Vince Carter dunk in the Olympics.

A joint effort by UNDRCRWN and Karmaloop, it looks like the shirt will be made available at the democratic national convention in Denver.

Jay-Z photoshoot behind the scenes for Vibe's 15th Anniversary

For those of us that had aspirations of becoming an international icon but never made it as an athlete, actor, rapper, model, top chef, whatever, here is a little look at what goes into the photoshoots for big time magazine covers.

Somewhat interesting yet thrillingly boring at the same time.

Skillz speaks on the rap game and why Biggie wouldn't make it today with Diddy

This is a good front stoop conversation between rapper Skillz and a couple other of his boys (not sure who) about the state of the industry today and why the big dogs in hip-hop (i.e. Diddy, Jay-Z, J.Dupri, etc.) aren't bringing in new talent anymore. He makes some strong points. Thanks to Trek for passing this along.

Happy Birthday to the Dallas Kid

Big happy birthday shout to the Dallas Kid, Crooked Straight's biggest supporter.

Kim Kardashian vs. Carmen Electra wrestling scene from "Disaster Movie"

It's definitely a bad sign when you're outshined by Carmen Electra in your movie debut. Unfortunately for Kim Kardashian, that looks to be the case based on this short clip from "Disaster Movie."

After speaking with the Crooked Straight brass, we have given Kim a warning that if she pursues her acting career, she will have to resign as the Crooked Straight spokeswoman.

For some reason I don't foresee any Oscar nomiations in her future. AVN award, possibly.

Shaq is big in China

Literally.

This is a 50-foot statue of Shaquille O'Neal in one of Beijing's most popular public parks -- filled with basketball courts and ping pong tables.

I'm sure Kobe was thrilled to see this statue just in case he hasn't heard enough from Shaq during the off-season.

Here's a new track from Crooked reppin his beloved hometown of Long Beach, CA. This is off the Block Obama mixtape and he brings it as usual.

"When you riding through my hood, bring your ammunition...
You in Long Beach, n*kka, read the vandalism..."

Daily Dunk: Joel Freeland

We don't get enough dunks from big white stiffs around here, so Portland's 2006 first-round pick Joel Freeland is representing all the way from England. I wanted to do a little background on him to give you the info, but I stopped when I saw this in his Wikipedia entry: "His playing style has been compared to David Lee of the New York Knicks and former NBA player Keon Clark."

Just a tip, Joel: Any time you're compared to Keon Clark, that's not a good thing.

Anyhow, he takes a nice out-of-bounds oop here and then follows it up with a flop that would embarrass Manu Ginobili.

A trip through the hood with Joel Ortiz

Aftermath (?) emcee Joel Ortiz takes his fans on a trip through his Cooper Park Projects in Brooklyn, New York. First thing he goes to? The poker game going down outside on the chess board table. That's what goes down in the hood and I have to admit I'd hate to hit a two-outer if I was playing in that game.

I think this is Chamillionaire's first appearance on Crooked Straight, a little late.

This is for the die-hards.

Video of the Day: "It's So Cold in the D"

I have no idea where KK found this crap, but it's an intant classic and eternal nominee not only for worst video of all time, but worst song of all time as well.

I did hear that it was cold in the D though, so props to this chick for pointing that out to the world.

Daily Dunk: Dwight Howard

Normally, I try to avoid posting All-Star highlights for dunks, because it's meaningless and guys play at half-speed. But I had to post this Kidd-LeBron-Superman re-enactment of an "NBA Jam" play. This ish is just too crazy.

Usain Bolt runs the field ragged in the 200m

After easily breezing his way to the 100 meters gold medal, Usain Bolt did the same in the 200m, also setting the world record on the way. As you can see in this video, no one was even close to him.

NBC doesn't have it up yet so this is in some foreign language. Dude is just bananas though.
